I’m sure you’re thinking this is a rather odd topic to talk about but I am so good at procratinating things and just straight up quitting things. 3 months ago, I embarked on a new journey though and it’s been life changing.
3 months probably doesn’t sound like a lot of time for me to give you my honest tips to help you stick with things, but statistics have proven that if you can stick with something for 24 days, then it will become a habit.
I have 3 tagible tips for how you can ditch your excuses and start sticking with the things that you want to stick with.
set small goals
I’m sure you’ve seen this one somewhere else but there’s good reason for it.
We often get overwhelmed when we set bigger goals and it seems so far out of reach that it almost doesn’t seem worth it.
For instance, if you set a goal to lose 30lbs, it can seem daunting if you’re looking at that bigger number and each day you wake up and have only lost 1lb. If the ultimate goal is to lose 30lbs, then set a smaller goal to lose 2lbs first, that way when you lose that 2lbs you feel accomplished. Once you’ve completed that goal, set another goal to lose 2lbs and so forth. It’s going to take work and ultimately you will get to the bigger goal of losing 30lbs but you’re not discouraged and want to quit.
tell your friends and family
Hold yourself accountable and tell your friends about this new life or thing that you’re doing. There’s nothing like accountability to hold ourselves accountable. It’s likely that when you share your new goal with your friends and family that they will reach out to you and ask how it’s going.
You don’t really want to share with them that you’re not doing it anymore right?
go all in
One of the biggest reasons we are so quick to give up is because we’ve got one foot in the door. YOU HAVE GOT TO GO ALL IN. For the first couple of months, it’s an all or nothing thing. This doesn’t mean that you have to commit to this one thing and that’s all that you can do but it is something that you have to make time for every single day and it must be non-negotiable.
Remember, if you can do it every day for 24 days, it should be something that becomes a habit. GO ALL IN, AND DON’T LOOK BACK.
You deserve to commit to yourself. Stop letting your inconsistnacy hold you back. With anything in life, it’s important that you remain consistant. You are so capable of sticking with it, so start today.
If you use these tips, I’d love to hear about it. What is your biggest takeaway?
